Shingle calculator: how many bundles do I need?
Turn roof squares into shingle bundles, starter strip and underlayment rolls — with waste included.
The rule of thumb
Most architectural and 3-tab shingles come 3 bundles to a square (100 sq ft). Add waste for cuts — 10% for a simple gable roof, 15% or more for hips and valleys — and round up to whole bundles.
Underlayment is usually sold in rolls covering 10 squares (synthetic) or 4 squares (felt). Drip edge comes in 10-ft pieces. Always check the coverage printed on your product.
